Bowen Therapy

The aim of Bowen Therapy is to allow the body to self heal with minimal intervention. Bowen Therapy uses precise and gentle moves where the trained practitioner will engage and roll over specific points on your body using their thumb and index finger. These moves send a signal and inform your central nervous system about areas of tension or injury. The feedback signal from the brain will then re-educate the body about a preferred way of being that helps to unblock pain and stiffness.

What will happen in a treatment session

Bowen Therapy can work through light clothing and you will begin your session by lying on a comfortable treatment table. The Bowen therapist will then apply a series of gentle moves over groups of muscles and tendons. A feature of Bowen Therapy is that there are two to five minute pauses between treating each muscle group. These pauses allow your body to integrate and self adjust during the treatment. A trained therapist can observe and interpret these subtle changes and tailor your treatment accordingly.

Each session will last between 15 and 60 minutes.

What will you feel during a session

Most people are surprised how relaxed they feel during a session. Common reactions are sensations of warmth, tingling, humming or buzzing in any part of the body, whether or not it is directly treated. These reactions form part of your treatment and the Bowen therapist will use these to guide the procedures for the session.

How many sessions?

Many conditions will respond after one treatment but more chronic conditions may require weekly sessions for another two to three weeks.

Michael practices Bowen Therapy according to the Bowtech™ principles and guidelines. Bowtech™ was established to uphold the standards of Bowen Therapists worldwide.
