Hypnotherapy

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a familiar state of consciousness which we enter and leave often. It feels like daydreaming, i.e. the state between waking and sleeping. In this state the brainwaves and inner chatter slow down, giving access to the deeper subconscious mind. The conscious mind is still aware of what is happening but it is now open to new ideas and possibilities. In this relaxed state of mind the subconscious mind accepts beneficial suggestions without negative interference, eg. "I could never do that" or "I've always been like this", etc.

So you can use the power of the subconscious mind to eject repetitive patterns of thought, addictions, unwanted behaviours, traumatic memories, unhelpful beliefs and the inner critic.

Also you can create, install and sustain new ways of being, a new reality and a fresh start.

How does it work?

W all have success and failure spirals in various areas of our lives depending on what we say to ourselves.

Success spiral:      Belief/attitude -> Action ->Outcome -> Belief/attitude etc

For example: If a little girl is told she is good at tennis...then she has a positive attitude and expects to be good...then she is more confident, alert, focused....and the outcome is that she is good at tennis. This re-inforces the new belief/attitude. Now she is good at tennis and confident that this is so.

This unfortunately also works when she is told she is bad at tennis! Be mindful of what you say to your children!

With hypnosis you change the belief and, by imagining the desired outcome and anchoring it in your mind, create some new possibilities for yourself, and then are confident to take new actions. Then you have the desired outcome. That doubly reinforces the new belief because you have concrete evidence that it's true.

Are you submitting to someone else's will?

NO, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The hypnotherapist is like a driving instructor but the subject is still driving.
