Naturopathy
Naturopathy is best described as an art as well as a science
and can be defined as a viable, effective and increasingly popular
form of medicine. It not only employs bodies of scientifically
validated knowledge such as herbal and nutritional medicine but
also energy medicines such as homoeopathy together with a compassionate
and caring approach to resolving health problems. Based on a
philosophy that stresses the importance of treating the individual
rather than the disease, naturopathy has a strong focus on prevention
and improving quality of life.
An initial consultation usually takes 1 hour during which an
extensive medical history is taken and you will be asked to
provide information about your diet and lifestyle. Your blood
pressure
will be checked and the naturopath may also want to look at
your hair, skin, nails and tongue which can reveal a lot about
your
state of health. An additional diagnostic method included in
your consultation is iridology or iris diagnosis, which involves
looking into your eyes with a special magnified torch or iris
camera.
A naturopath will help you resolve or manage any health problem
you may have and provide you with information to help prevent
health problems in the future. They are well educated in
health sciences and will refer you to other health specialists
when
required.
The naturopaths who work at the Wholistic Medical Centre are
fully accredited members of the Australian Traditional Medicine
Society and are registered with all private health funds
that provide rebates for alternative medicines.
